Surgery Update – Part 2…

Part 1

I was discharged from the hospital around 10:30 in the morning. My daddy was there to pick me up. I was just so glad to finally be leaving. 2 nights in the hospital felt like FOREVER. I got no real sleep or rest. There are way too many nurses coming in at all hours of the day/night to check on different vitals and such. I was ready to be in a real bed, my bed my parents very comfy guest room bed.

I went straight to bed upon arriving at my parents house. The rest, though not very long, was great. The first few days post-op at home were uncomfortable. It was a little painful going from a laying down to sitting up position. It wasn’t so much my outer incisions that were bothering me, it was more of an internal pain. It was a very tolerable pain, but pain none the less. My prescribed pain meds definitely came in handy for those first few days.

I slept a LOT in the 2 weeks that I was out of work on disability. The surgery took so much out of me and since I’m not eating as many calories daily my energy has been low. From what I hear I should start to gain back my energy as the weeks go by. I have slowly started to feel more energized, but O.M.G. I’m still so tired ALL.THE.TIME.

Today is exactly 8 weeks since I began the pre-surgery process (and 6 weeks since surgery).  I’m down 44 pounds and I feel great. I’m still getting used to my smaller stomach and to what I can and can not eat. It’s definitely different feeling FULL so quickly, sometimes after only a few bites of a meal. It’s also really weird to never feel hungry. Forcing myself to eat goes against everything I’ve ever known, but I have to eat, so I push myself to get in about 5 small meals a day. I try to eat some source of protein with every meal, though I’m still having a hard time getting my entire recommended amounts of protein in daily.  80 grams is a LOT of protein, yo!!!  I really need to find a protein shake that tastes good, any suggestions?

Thank you all for your support the past 8 weeks.  I appreciate you all more than you will ever possibly know.  I will continue to update you all on my journey, my plan is once a month, and will hopefully post before and after pictures soon (ish).

XOXO

Wow! 44 pounds? That is amazing! You are doing great, keep it up! Protein shake that i like is called Aria it is formulated for women and has a 50/50 combo of soy and whey protein. Each shake is about 14 grams of protein and i usually have 2 a day. It’s vanilla and I mix it with almond milk and a banana in the blender. It’s pretty good!

Good for you, Greis!!

I try to drink a protein shake every day, too, because it IS so hard to consume it all through food. I have two different kinds, one is by EAS called “Myoplex Lite”. It comes in chocolate, strawberry or vanilla, my fave is the vanilla. I buy a few kinds of frozen berries and drop a handful of them, plus some nonfat greek yogurt (has more protein than regular yogurt), some crushed ice and water in a smoothie maker or blender with the packet of Myoplex for about 30 seconds or so, and VOILA – delicious shake with tons of protein!
I also have a Spirulina chocolate protein powder from the natural food store, and it’s super tasty blended with an iced coffee.

So glad to hear that surgery recovery is going as well as expected. I hope you get some energy back soon.

Here’s a link to a protein drink that I can tolerate. It tastes like kool-aid. Plus, it’s only 15grams of protein, so it’s great when you’re in a pinch or to add a supplement.

Hope you continue to improve and gain strength and energy!
