Do you remember?

Anyone that knows me (I mean really, REALLY knows me) knows that I have an aging memory.  I can barely remember things that happened yesterday, so expecting me to remember things from years and years and years ago is pretty un-heard of.

Except for when it comes to today’s date, 8 years ago.

I remember, in full color, exactly what I was doing on September 11, 2001.
The entire day is a vivid image in my mind, as if it happened hours ago.
From waking up to a radio DJ announcing that the 1st Tower had been hit by a plane; to falling asleep, tears rolling down my cheeks, as I watched the continuous news coverage of the days events.

I remember EVERYTHING from that day.

September 11, 2001 is a day that I will NEVER forget.

TwinTowers

You shouldn’t either.

**Have You Forgotten by Darryl Worley**
Have you forgotten how it felt that day
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away?
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside
Going through a living hell
And you say we shouldn’t worry ’bout Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

God Bless the America!

This was the day after I got home from my honeymoon. I remember my phone ringing off the hook that morning. “TURN ON YOUR TV,” my friend yells. I asked (groggily) what channel he just HAD to have me look at. He said, “Any channel, it’s all over.”

That’s when I knew something life-changing was going on. I turned the TV on about 5 minutes before the second airplane hit the tower.

I don’t remember eating. I don’t remember going to the bathroom. But I remember everything I saw on TV that day.

As your former teacher and current friend, I just had to compliment you on your writing! I HATE to write/blog/etc…, but I love reading others’ blogs! You go girl – still liking what you have to say after all these years!

BTW…I was at Truitt, still teaching Wait till Helen Comes when I heard the news. I couldn’t concentrate a bit, and we weren’t allowed to tell the students until much later in the day. Allen was supposed to be at a meeting in the WTC, but ended up not going and sending someone else. The team from Compaq all perished. Gives me chills every time I think about that day. Why were we so lucky???

I’m the same way about 9/11. I remember everything about it, how I heard about it, how I spent the day watching, everything. I don’t think we’ll ever forget.
